Stephanie Holderfield has formally announced that she is running for Champaign County Board’s District 1 of Mahomet. Stephanie is a 26-year resident of Mahomet and believes that giving back to her community is very important. “Protecting our property values and rights is a fundamental right that seems to be getting forgotten about in the quest for larger and bigger government”, said Holderfield.
Stephanie has been actively involved on local, county and state levels since her children were grade school age, beginning with M-S PTO as the V.P. of Sangamon School. She has served as Champaign County Association of Realtors Governmental Affairs Chair and has also received an Illinois Association of Realtors appointment to the Housing Opportunity Working Group.
Listed among her concerns are those for the elderly and children of our community. “Making sure that there are good health care facilities and nursing homes helps enrich the lives of the people that help us preserve our past. Finding ways to transport the elderly that no longer have transportation is also important.”
“Participating as a Board of Director for Family Services of Champaign County really gives you insight as to how difficult it is for the elderly to get to their doctor, to the grocery store and other shopping. We take for granted how easy it is to get into a car, but for the elderly it is so much more difficult.” Stephanie remembers how isolated her 95-year-old grandmother felt once her car was taken away due to the loss of her eye sight. Stephanie believes that there are ways to cut spending without cutting important programs that preserve and protect our precious loved ones. “Children need good before- and after-school day care and it is very costly.”
Stephanie was accepted into a fellowship program with the Illinois Lincoln Excellence in Public Service Series class of 2009, which is a political training ground to better prepare women in politics. Since 1995, the Illinois Lincoln Series has awarded a maximum of 15 fellowships each year. Fellowship winners are selected from a statewide field of applicants who have demonstrated leadership skills in their chosen fields of work or in service to their community. All must display a commitment to achieving the full participation of women in politics and government.
Stephanie is married to Todd Holderfield. They have 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren.
